Sampling a cold growler filled at the brewery a few weeks ago. Pouring into a snifter.
The beer pours a dark porteresque cola brown color with a fizzy tan head of 2 cm foaming up and fading via pockmarked craters until the foam is a thin surface layer and sturdy edging.
The aroma is VERY smokey! Almost like a fire pit or a pile of CHARRED bacon. very ashey on the nose with faint hints of roasted malt and some dark chocolate, but smoke steals the show here.
FIrst sip reveals an average body with fine and tingly carbonation. Texture is smooth and the beer drinks easy.
Flavor is what I would expect from the nose. I get a good hit of dark chocolate, but this rolls quickly to smoked malt and peat flavors. There is a bit of roasted malt and dark chocolate but the smoke flavor is by far the most dominant. I dont get any hop character and I move through the growler quickly.
Nice, yet heavily burdened smoke beer.
