When Rhinos Fly (formerly Chubby Unicorn) is a New England style double IPA. It shares some of the characteristics of our beloved Safe Space, but is a bit more Chubby. Late hop additions of Amarillo and Denali and the rich Golden Promise malt base help make When Rhinos Fly extra flavorful yet surprisingly lean, juicy and refreshing for a big beer.

Possibly old, maybe just too cloying and sweet for my tastes. Would try again on tap or fresh if they date their cans. Still have not had a decent IPA from these folks though their kolsch is certainly acceptable and welcome.

Surprised there isn’t more hype around this one. Such a clean sip with heavy citrus notes and a slightly hazy mouthfeel throughout. Not as hop-forward as I expected for a DIPA, but I’m not “missing” anything I hoped for. Will add to my rotation.

Snagged a can of this a few weeks ago during a visit to the brewery...
It's a cloudy, rich medium golden color. Has a frothy, rocky off-white head. Starts at about 1" but ebbs slowly down, with top-shelf lacing. Has a decent aroma with pineapple, melon and some apricot mixed together. Body is a good medium, and the prickle is there, though light.
Taste has some mild toasty malt, but is overwhelmingly hoppy and citrussy. Has some pineapple, red grapefruit, and subtle tangerine. Also has some pithy notes, a bit of resiny pine, and some dankness in the finish. A decent rendition of the style. Prosit!

At 53 degrees pours an opaque deep gold; fluffy white head; good cap retention; heavy ring; medium heavy lacing. Aromas of fresh sliced guava, passion fruit and kiwi. Taste follows nose; some lemon pith bitterness; earthy oniony hops with sweet malt foundation. Medium light body; medium carbonation; minimal hop astringency; no warmth from 8.5% abv. Overall a very approachable NEDIPA; fruity without being a juice box; well balanced malt sweetness and hop bitterness; and light feeling - I don’t feel full and can happily drink the entire 16ozs; would I seek this out?, no; would I drink again?, yes!

URHUCKLEBERRY
How's it look:
Hazy city USA. Straw gold with orange, shimmering highlights. Fat Angles... Purity is white white foam. Thick, solid, clumpy pillow. Big, funky and intricate lacing abounds.
I just took a whiff:
Sweet fruity tropical hops abound, strawberries and whipped cream, pineapple chunks from the can, blood orange and sugar plums.
Rich golden wheat grainy malt
Earthy herbs underneath the bold ass fruity hop bursting stinky.
How the heck does it taste?
Chunky, juicy, smooth and rich mouthfeel and texture. Heady sweet malted grains are complete.
Hops are tropical fruit punch style...i.e: Pineapple, watermelon, cantelope and candy apples.
Spicy wheat bite, earthy tones from the heady and earthy malt side. Simply delightful. The after taste and effect leaves a heavy layer of sweet sugared candy on the lips and tends to go on and on.
Sensational media hype after the first report of flying rhinos and chubby unicorns were first spotted over the North American Continent. Glad they made a beer to honor this rather historic (fictionalized) event.

As a big Safe Space fan, I was pumped to see this as I typically prefer double IPAs over the weaker counterparts. This doesn't disappoint. Tropical fruits and slight crackery malt on the nose. Taste follows the nose, a little bit more crackery than tropical which I'm really digging. This is absolutely great. Just like a Safe Space but more substantial and filling. Great juicy Neipa.

Can from Candia Road.
Lightly hazy light gold in color with a thin white head that slowly dissipates. Grainy grassy earthy with bits of citrus and topical notes.

Poured into a 16 oz Hop Slam Snulip, canned on 5/15/19. Pours a very hazy dark orange with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves big streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.5
Smell melon, apricot, papaya, mandarin, pineapple, and just a little tickle of grapefruit rind, nice big and evenly distributed. 4.25
Taste follows melon, papaya, mandarin, apricot, pineapple, and justba little shot of bitter grapefruit. 4.5
Mouthfeel is a big medium, soft gentle carbonation, a tad sticky but not dry, and at 8.5% ABV extremely drinkable. 4.5
Overall I am digging this one. Different in a good way, Juicy, but balanced and showing all of its best qualities. 4.25

Sampled on tap at the brewery on April 6, 2019 on the day of its release.
It pours like a NEIPA with a cloudy looking light amber tone and a modest white head. But the cloudiness is not a pulpy cloudiness.
Deep aromas of tropical fruit and citrus with some orange or tangerine, a little grapefruit, and a juiciness. Underneath is a barley grain breadiness and I do not pick up any alcohol on the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
The alcohol comes forward a bit more in the flavor causing it to end with a bitter bite. But there is still a presence of of tropical fruit and citrus in the taste.
