Veering from the typical trends of craft beer, Oddstout finds comfort in an old story- a well sculpted Vienna Lager.

Pouring medium amber and floating a frothy dry cap, Woven Stone shares a caramelized scent decorated with light floral hops. toasted grain, nuttiness and mild toast. As its gentle sweetness greets the tongue, notions of honey, faint caramel, toast and nuttiness provides a lightly crusty and savory taste while a looming hop balance of peppery germanic hops aid with dryness and balance.

Easy drinking and characterful. Oddstory shows what classic ale can be.

Look: Clear, medium amber, fluffy white head with good retention.

Smell: Toasted bread

Taste: Malt forward, toasted bread, spicy/herbal hops, low sweetness, moderate to low bitterness.

Feel: Medium bodied, soft, drying, medium length clean finish.

Overall: Impressive effort. Hits the historical version style boxes. Toasty and spicy hops. Avoids caramel notes and sweetness present in too many modern versions. Soft mouthfeel. Just enough bitterness for balance but doesn't linger long in the finish. Dry, clean finish. Refreshing beer that will pair well with a variety of foods. I'd drink it again. Well crafted.

Had Woven Stone at Champy's, E. M.L. King Blvd., Chattanooga, on draft into clear plastic beer cup.

Pours light amber with minimal off-white head, which dissipates to a persistent ring, leaving a little scattered lace. Mild malty aroma. Begins with mild carbonation, carrying mild, smooth, slightly-sweet caramel malt, and then a bit of bittering hops lead into a crisp but still smooth malty finish.

On style, a bit iced tea-like, and so excellent for washing down fried foods.

I'm trying this beer at the brewery. It poured a clear copper with no head and no lace. The scent had faint grain notes. The taste was slightly sweet leaning with German sweet malt presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.

Poured into a snifter. Slightly hazy amber orange color with a modest off white head. Decent lacing in the glass. The aroma was rich and bready. A hint of floral hops but it was all about the malt. The taste followed with brown bread and pumpernickel flavors, balanced with floral hops and clean bitterness. Seemed more bitter than the 29 IBUs on the can, but it didn’t detract from the malt. Medium bodied and clean. Great beer.
