Barleywine by its very nature is a challenge. Huge beers with bold strokes, complexities, & subtle notes. When approaching one, there can be but a single victor (and it's not always the drinker). With this sense of conflict in mind, we built this brew upon a robust bill of English Marris Otter, French Barbe Rouge hops, and a high gravity Scottish yeast strain. A warrior straddling the Channel with conquest on the mind, it seemed only right to commemorate this beer to William and his victory in 1066. While the rest of this beer yet slumbers in barrels, this variant spent its time in an Elijah Craig 14 year to which we added Brazilian Amburana wood to draw out vanilla & spice to compliment the caramel, pomme fruit, and berry of the base beer.

5 oz pour on tap at the brewpub. This was my favorite beer sampled and is a fantastic and complex barleywine. It has typical notes of caramel, vanilla, oak, bourbon, and raisin but there is a hard-to-define fruitiness that I assume comes from the amburana wood. It has hints of citrus (which could also be coming from the hops), berries, and tree fruit as well. Very tasty, incredibly smooth for the 15.5% abv, and unique!
