It's not the best Imperial stout I've tried from De Moersleutel but it might be the best one brewed at Frau Gruber I've ever tried.
Quite roasty and chocolatey. Typical smooth mouthfeel from De Moersleutel (maltodextrin adjuncts?)

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, creamy, dark-brown head. Smells of lightly roasted, caramel malt, chocolate and brown sugar, with just a hint of cola. Taste is a decent balance of very lightly roasted, caramel malt, brown sugar, chocolate, cola and just a hint of coffee, licorice and herbal hops. Finishes rather sweet, with a very light bitterness and some chocolate and cola lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This is unfortunately quite a typical example of a disappointing collaboration by two big players. FrauGruber make exceptional IPAs, but were never able to get a Stout quite right and even De Moersleutel, who usually make exceptional Stouts apparently weren't able to fix that. This is way too sweet, sugary, almost syrupy, while lacking those strong roasted malt and bitter hop notes that I'm used to from De Moersleutel, which would have provided some much needed balance here. There is also very little depth to this, with any kind of complexity from the light coffee and licorice notes being drowned out by brown sugar and an unpleasant cola note. I'm also getting a certain, light lactose vibe from this, even though it isn't listed in the table of contents.
