Pours a cloudy, golden amber coloration with a large, frothy head. Smells of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and floral, citrus hops, with notes of grapefruit and lime peel, as well as just a hint of pine. Taste is a good balance of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and fruity, floral, slightly resinous hops, with citrus and lighter tropical notes of grapefruit, lime peel, pineapple and papaya, as well as just a hint of pine. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some grapefruit and hints of floral accents and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
Personally, I maintain that Loral hops have no place in IPAs, although I have to admit that they are not too obnoxious here, with those floral notes not standing out too much, while there's a decent, resinous bitterness to this as well as some fruity highlight of citrus and tropical fruits, with just a hint of caramel malt as well. While there's a good bitterness to this, it could be more resinous and less floral for my personal taste. Overall, this makes for a decent West Coast IPA that's not really to my personal taste, but captures the style well enough, if not perfectly.
