Pours a cloudy, golden coloration with a large, wispy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and berry, citrus and tropical notes of white grape, gooseberry, passion fruit and orange. Taste is a good balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy hops, with berry, citrus and tropical notes of white grape, gooseberry, orange, lime, passion fruit and mango. Finishes with a very light bitterness and booziness, as well as some gooseberry, mango and lime lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This makes for a decent TIPA, although it does suffer from some of the typical deficiencies of the style, mainly a certain booziness in the finish that is not too bad, while certainly not feeling too sweet though. When it comes to the hops, they do feel a tad overripe and muddled up as well, although still being pretty vibrant and fairly well-defined. The Nelson Sauvin and Waimea feel very dominant here, with strong berry and citrus notes, as well as bit of tropical character from the Riwaka as well. I do think that this works well as a NZ NEIPA because of those strong berry and citrus notes, hard to believe that there is no Motueka in there.
