wild beer here, one foot in the ancient, one in the now, reinheitsgebot unfiltered lager it appears, but then also with modern hops, like almost a hazy ipa, a massively dry hopped specimen, so weird, so good, and fresh enough even after its long trip to be delicious, unexpected draft find in boise and just my second from these guys. looks bright but hazy, like a modern new england type, straw golden yellow with a high white bubbly head, looks great. the nose shows a little oxidation but a real contemporary and fruity hop profile, things like bubblegum and spruce and gin, white florals too, meyer lemon oiliness, ripe melon, its not like conventional german beer really at all, and while there still is some lager yeast in play here, its largely obscured by all the hops, grain is a little raw, drier than expected, and has some starch to it, but is pretty mellow overall, faintly pils-esque, but its light and very much behind the hops. the flavor is so interesting, its recognizable as a german lager, but you almost have to go looking for it with how untraditional the hop profile and dosage is, pink fruit, clean pine, grapey sativa, some middle sweetness, low bitterness later but this remains a hop driven beer the whole way, and it lacks the crispness of traditional german lager, but id trade that for how original this is, and its still fairly easy drinking, well carbonated and all. sort of a different side of citra and el dorado too, like not sure id pick those out without knowing they were in this, almost some southern hemisphere character to the hops. curious but compelling little beer right here, definite style bender, and it keeps the intriguie up for me on this brewery, got to track down some more of their beers...

Quite an experience. This is the first kellerbier I have tried that looks like high pulp orange juice. It is REALLY unfiltered. In fact, it looked like your typical American hipster couple IPA.
The aroma and the taste are on the fruity side as well. I was going to guess they used American hops but no, the list on the can contains only German hop names.
It's palatable, but not a repeat beer for me.
