Local brew, canned in November.
Look: Dark brown. Almost no lacing which was very disappointing.
Smell: Very solid. A good roasted peanut.
Taste: The peanut comes through but it is a bit underwhelming. However, an interesting spice flavor is present in the aftertaste.
Feel: Low in mouth.
Overall: I enjoyed the spice profile in this beer but I can think of a lot of other PB stouts that I would rather have. I would not purchase this beer again.

Picked this up at Safeway in Lovelock, Nevada when I was out that way a few months back. Never had anything from Lead Dog before and this looked like it would be a fun beer. While it wasn't the best of it's kind that I've reviewed, this was a nice take on the style that was sensual in all aspects and quite easy to drink given it's heft!
No surprise that this poured a dark chocolate brown with a bit of garnet seeping in around the edges. Lots of full, bubbly mocha head topped this off as the lacing that was left behind wasn't on par with this brew's initial appearance. Loads of peanut butter, milk chocolate, and cocoa powder in the nose as the vanilla was felt more in the consistency than anything else. Not much of that showed up on the palate as this was smooth and reminiscent of peanut oil more than anything else. Full in body, light in carbonation, and plenty sticky in the aftertaste, this was a fun beer without being overly sweet, heavy, or edgy.
If you like your Stouts that way, you've met your match here as the alcohol was nearly imperceptible and another can could have easily been cracked open after finishing this off. A bit more hops and some bourbon would have enhanced this but as it was, this beer canned on 5/25 was enjoyable and didn't last in my glass for very long!

really cool art on this can, their new labels look good. i thought this beer was fine, a little bit powdered peanut thing going on, dusty and dry and without the fatty sweet richness of real peanut butter, obviously its hard to do, and a lot of these go in this direction, but it always seems a little cheap and like something is lacking, although this one less than others i guess. nice compatible chocolate vibe to the nose and taste from the malt, a chocolate malt middle and a nice roasty low end, even almost gives a toasted thing to the peanut itself, which builds back a little authenticity. the sweetness is only middle of the road which works in its favor, and combined with the lower alcohol it ends up being pretty drinkable if you like the flavor. for me it almost needs a little honey or something to round off and enhance the peanut butter aspect, even actual cocoa in this would be cool, on its own its more peanut than peanut butter, but not unnatural, which is also good. i think the quality of the base stout is there, which is always essential for this sort of thing, and its got a nice smoothness to it without being big, even a touch thin as it warms compared to expectations. on the one hand i want more from this, its sort of just lacking a little bit, but on the other, there are so many bad peanut butter beers out there that i cant be too critical, this is well ahead of the curve. a lit cigarette thing on the swallow from the roast, drying on the peanut butter, trace saltiness, fine balance, fine carbonation, enjoyable in small doses. maybe a little generously rated here on BA...

Black carbonated body with a nice beige head leaving a lacing along the rim and glass. A big woof of peanut butter emanates upon cracking the can. It smells great for being 10 months old. The vanilla is a little more subtle and primarily serves to enhance the peanut butter scent. This is a really good peanut butter stout. The roasted malts come in but itself taste like certain roasted notes in say, chunky peanut butter. The feel is decent, nicely carbonated with a smooth finish. Bitter notes come through more prominently as it warms and the feel of course becomes a more flat than carbonated, but overall a solid and enjoyable choice.

Look: Dark black pour with about half a fingers length of foam risen to the surface.
Smell: Slight notes of peanut butter - said it's made with vanilla beans but the peanut butter overpowers the vanilla.
Taste: Strong notes of peanut butter followed by a chocolate aftertaste. Impressive! This is a really good stout.
Feel: Medium bodied beer - light carbonation.
Overall: This is a good stout! It has a strong initial taste but it's followed by a peanut butter taste that is very good!

Poured with a nice head from the can. Strong peanut nose. Peanuts are up front at first with a roasty finish. Not cloyingly sweet. A decent dessert beer. Not really my kind if stout but quite good.

It smells like peanut butter and that's about all. I pick up a little bit of roasty malts.
It tastes like really burnt toast slathered in peanut butter.
It's smooth and thin with mild carbonation. The finish is bitter but the longer it goes the more peanut taste comes through.
Overall it's really enjoyable but not fantastic. They definitely packed it full of peanut butter flavor. I give it a 4.4 out of 6.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, peanut butter, light chocolate. Lots of peanut butter. Flavor is dark toasted malt, peanut butter, light milk chocolate and vanilla. Medium bodied with light creaminess. Peanut butter was obvious on opening the can and was so clear in the aroma it made me hungry. The malt was a bit on the light side for stout, but more than adequate to support the peanut butter flavor. Nice vanilla and light chocolate notes are well balanced. Quite nice, but a little more malt depth and this one would be stellar.

Got this on a whim
A: Pours a fizzy off beige colored head. Body is very dark. The little light that seeps through give a hint of brown and slight red. Head dissipates to nothing pretty quickly
S: Smells like melted creamy peanut butter. Quite bit of sweetness. Almost like peanut syrup. Some deep rich malt, but that's mostly drowned out. Not shy about what it wants to be.
T: The peanut, some roasted flavors, some vanilla, is apparent from the start, but it's balanced by an inappropriate amount of hops. It does a good job of cleansing your palate after each sip, but I would have preferred a long rich aftertaste.
O: Fine tasting beer. The hops have too much presence for my liking. It feels like being waken up too early.
Edit: This is growing on me. The hops faded as it warmed. This is now the rich creamy beer I was expecting.

Pours almost motor oil black like with several fingers of thick soapy light brown head. Leaves decent lacing on my glass as well.
Smells like decadent rich peanut butter! Picking up a bit of chocolate in the background but very faint.
Taste is wow! Getting the peanut butter and lots of roasted malts. Malts seem just a touch bitter like nicely roasted malts.
Mouth feel is a bit thin for a stout. More along the lines of a porter. Also do not like the finish so much as it is very crisp and just drops off. Would love to see it hang around a bit.
This seems like a more honest peanut butter stout than other I have tried. The mouth feel seems a bit off stout wise but every where else this beer really hits the high notes. Highly recommended if you like peanut butter stouts. I am living in Vegas and love to see such a good beer coming from a Nevada brewery, up in Reno. May have to drive up and taste some freshly brewed goods! Cheers!
