It's worth surviving a long, cold winter if you get to drink this in the spring. Springbok represents the gleeful leap from winter dreariness to spring renewal. It has all the depth and strength of a wintry lager, balanced with enough lightness to put a spring in your step.

The brewer labels this as a Heller Bock ("pale bock" - extra credit for the proper spelling). It is entered in the BA database as a Bock - Maibock. IDK if there is a real difference, but probably not.

Aroma of bread, somewhat sweet caramel, a little spice. Hints of fruit, but only hints - imagination? - something airy, though, perhaps floral.

Moderately carbonated crystal clear light amber. 1 inch white-to-off-white thick head with OK retention, leaving a thick coating of lacing down the glass.

The taste has a great malt flavor, bread, a bit sweet - almost honey; perhaps hard cookie (i.e. English biscuit). The initial taste starts out smooth and reminiscent of an all-malt pilsner, but without the pils hops. There is a very mild tartness/bitterness in the middle and through to the finish, but it has faded before the aftertaste. The aftertaste is bready malts, a little sweet and coating with just a tinge of tartness on the back of the tongue.

The mouth feel is smooth and with a moderate body.

Overall, a very tasty spring beer; a nice transition beer from the heavy beers of winter to the crisp beers of summer, which I suppose is what a heller (mai) bock is. Very nicely done.

16oz can, canned 2/19/2021 IBU: 36 a Heller bock
Pretty beer: transparent deep gold body with a nice white head that leaves plenty of lacing
Taste is toasted bread, a little of the following: caramel, clover honey, grain, biscuit, hop spice that is hard to describe: Cracker, mineral, (pepper?). maybe a micro hint of floral hops. Overall slightly sweet but does have it's bitter elements. a slight bite to it at times.
Finishes fairly clean. But does have a slight lingering after taste of mineral or a noble tettnang hop note

From a 16oz can:

Appearance: Clear gold, good head.

Smell: Bready, caramel.

Taste: Nice caramel sweetness backed by solid breadiness. Nicely balanced, very clean feel and easy to drink.

Overall: Really impressed with this maibock from a Minneapolis local brewery. Nicely balanced beer, leans a little to the sweeter side but finishes clean. Other maibocks I've had seem boozy, this doesn't have that issue even with almost 7% abv. Good stuff!

A nice maibock but for local options I prefer Summit's version. This just does not have the same smooth, clean malt profile of Summit's. I do really enjoy the hoppiness of this beer with its pepper and herbal notes. Solid body and looks excellent.

12oz can. 'CANNED ON 01/31/19'.
Clear, deep gold colored body. Three fingers of white head settle back to a bubbly cap and ring. Leaves behind an interrupted pattern of lacing.
Lots of bready malts in the aroma, along with caramel and sweetness.
Taste follows the smell with sweet bread dominating, and just a touch of hop bite.
Medium and smooth mouth feel. Good carbonation.
As it drinks now I think the beer is a bit too sweet and lacks a real crisp hop bite. Provides a pretty physical appearance.

At the brewery...pours a clear gold. Nose is a lot of fresh baked bread and some earthy clovery honey...great! Taste and feel are fine, sweet and fresh and straightforward/simple, and also on the underhopped side of American takes. Feel lacks a little of the crisp bite that I love but it is clean.
