22 oz bottle from Trader Joe in Salem OR. $2.99 pours a nice light golden colour..slightly hazy and with a large good looking white frothy head. Aroma sort of sweet and spicy.getting perhaps a touch of cucumber too. Its nice. Taste is a melange of pepper, cucumber and cream of wheat and it turns out fine. Nice smooth medium thin body on this..the carbonation is soft. Realy liked this in the 90 degree heat here..excellent for under $3.

Pours yellow. Bubbly, short, white head fades fast.
Smells herbal, wheat, tea and light funk.
Tastes floral, light wheat, malt and hint of vegetal. Followed by light funk and cucumber. Finish is semi dry with a light vegetal linger. Lighter body and fizzy lower carbonation.

Off yellow poured with a fantastic fluffy white head. Wheat nose with steel, carbon and graphite mineral and some bread yeast. Creamy and a little skunky. Dry finish with stone granite on the finish and a mild aftertaste of juniper berries, fresh pine tips and... Pickle brine? Just a hint, not much real cucumber to speak of. Thin at first, then a creamy thickness builds ending with a fairly dry sensation. Its odd. Interesting, but odd. Not going to seek out more, but I enjoyed trying it.

So, this was an impulse buy from Trader Joe’s, as I’d never had a beer brewed with cucumbers. I’m not sure what I was expecting with this, but what I got is far more mediocre and weird than either what I was hoping for or afraid of. Up front there’s lots of generic wheat and spice notes, which is followed by a sticky sucrose, and finally a dank, soapy, vegetable flavor that lingers on the palate. I’m guessing that last part was the cucumbers (yes, I am aware they are technically fruits, not vegetables)? This almost got poured down drain, but then I remembered there are sober children in India and Africa, so I powered my way through the rest of it.

A cucumber wheat ale.
Look: Pours a translucent straw yellow color. Generates a two finger satin white head that hangs around for a while before finally settling down to reveal some lacing on the glass.
Aroma: Smells like a typical wheat ale. Notes of sweet, creamy malted wheat, with notes of slightly soapy potpourri along the lines of clove, lemon rind, white pepper and mild banana. Not much cucumber on the nose, but there is a mildly clean, vegetal note of what I guess is cucumber in the background.
Taste: Not much cucumber on the palate either. Upfront the taste of spice is the first thing you will probably notice. The initial taste consists of flavors reminiscent of the nose, mainly soapy coriander, clove, lemon rind and white pepper with slight banana and bubblegum. These flavors mingle with some vaguely creamy malted wheat character mid-palate, and they persist throughout the remaining drinking experience unto the finish. I'm not sure where the cucumber is on this beer, not to say that the Ale is bad, but one of the main reasons I bought it was that I have had excellent beers brewed with cucumber in the past, particularly Das Bronx Berliner Weisse, and I was hoping this would have a similar cucumber profile. Although of course I didn't expect this to taste like a Berliner Weisse obviously. There are some very timid sweet vegetal notes which I can only assume is cucumber hidden somewhere in the taste, but you really have to search for them making them merely an afterthought.
Feel: The mouthfeel is medium bodied and moderately carbonated with some creaminess from the wheat, while still remaining crisp and thirst quenching. This beer would be an outstanding candidate for something to drink on a hot day in the sun. 6% ABV is not apparent.
Overall: A great although straightforward Wheat Ale but it's missing that little extra "oomph" I was looking for from the addition of brewing with cucumbers. My bottle is fresh so I'm not worried about the flavors having faded with age, I think it just has to do with the fact that cucumber is a very neutral tasting ingredient to brew with which definitely makes it tricky to use. I feel like the spice overpowers not so much the taste of the beer, but the presence of the cucumber. I can slightly pick it up on the aroma, but on the palate it has essentially vanished. Still, at $3.99 a bomber, I can't say I'm disappointing, and I wouldn't mind repurchasing this.
