Mmm, so this is yummy. I can't recall exactly when I bought it last year, but I do love my dark beers, and peanut butter is delicious. The pour was dark, chocolatey brown with an excellent tan head. I believe I'm getting a chocolate peanut butter smell, very malty and a little charred, and that is the same as the taste. It's good stuff. Okay, I forgot it had coffee and that is where some of the smell and the bitter taste is coming from. A little peanut butter sweetness on top, a little bitter coffee on the bottom. Smooth, little carbonation. It's pretty simple, straightforward, but solid, and you can hardly get a better deal.

22oz bomber split with the Mrs. into a Libby globe porter glass and a snifter glass. No date on the bottle, but we'll assume that it was brewed this year since it just showed up at the Trader Joe's not that long ago.

Appearance: Very dark brown approaching stout darkness, letting very little light through. A bit of a dark cola brown at the edges of the glass. Thin tan head/ring with a few islands of lacing noted.

Smell: Peanut butter cookie dominates the aroma, along with some vanilla, and a bit of milk chocolate.

Taste: Tastes a lot like it smells and quite sweet. Peanut butter cookie with some chocolate and vanilla. Not really getting much else and the coffee is quite hidden - maybe a little bit of black coffee at the finish, but that's also pretty muted.

Mouthfeel: Creamy and nicely thick - good carbonation. A little sticky on the teeth.

Overall / Drinkability: Definitely a dessert beer, and this went well with, not surprisingly, chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter blossom cookies. However....one is enough. Too sweet to have a lot of. Still, quite nice.

Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin dark khaki head that dissipates to a thin film with nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, peanut butter, vanilla and coffee. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt, peanut butter, drip coffee, vanilla, lactose and a touch of diacetyl . Lingering coffee and peanut butter finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A solid peanut porter with light coffee character, but good peanut flavor. There is a touch of buttered popcorn in the finish, and while diacetyl is usually a flaw, it kind of meshes well here with the peanut butter flavor. These Campanology beers are not earth shaking in character, but a usually well made and a good deal. This one is flavorful and worth a try if one is into peanut butter stouts/porters. Better than expected and enjoyable. Probably the same as the "Trader Joe's Coffee Peanut Butter Cup Porter" archived here, but the bottle credits Campanology rather than Trader Joe's (although it seems to be an exclusive brand there)..

Appearance: Opaque mahogany brown body, with no highlights before a strong light, with a thick and dense, persistent tan head, which persists well. The lacing is thick and coats the glass wall in an unbroken sheet.

Aroma: The name of this beer is quite accurate, it is a "coffee peanut butter cup porter", at least by the aroma. The coffee notes present first: mellow, but slightly sweet. Then the peanut butter cup, not quite the presence of the coffee, but a presence, nonetheless. Then there is roasted malt, but gracious. The ABV of 9 percent is utterly absent in the aroma.

Taste: The taste begins with roasted coffee and sweet cream. As with the aroma, there is a distinct wave of peanut butter cups. The ABV of 9% is artfully concealed, offering no hint in warmth or taste. Finishes with a wave of sweet roasted coffee and lingering dark roasted malt.

Mouth feel: Smooth, full, and quite soft, with only a spectral presence of carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: An elegant and gracious dessert or winter beer, for those who might be wondering, it pairs quite well with peanut butter cups. As another reviewer noted, it is perfect for sharing in small pours.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twenty-two ounce brown glass bomber bottle, sealed with a pry-off crown, served in a La Fin du Monde tulip, at The Lake House.

It's a rich, rich beer. Smell is delicious and equally as rich as the taste. Smells like a delicious chocolate peanut butter pastry. Taste is really delightful but it's a lot to take in. Very sweet so it's more of a sipper. For a bomber it's tough to finish the whole thing.
