64oz growler from the brewery. Filled earlier today. Served in a Bone Hook snifter.
Pours a hazy burnt orange with a little more than a half finger cap of near-white froth. The foamy head settles to a few hazy islands and rocky crown, leaving some good sized trails of lace.
Dank citrus hops pervade the aroma. Earthy green onion, orange rind, musty garlic, overripe melon and some faint hop bread.
A powerful hop whallop of flavor. Citrus peel meets musty, dank onion/ garlic. Grapefruit, broken berry seeds, old wet grass, overripe melon, a little earthy spice, a touch of dough and an occasional nip of booze. It may not all sound complementary but it works quite well and drinks with an ease that belies its sub-10% abv.
Medium full, slightly resinous feel with pleasantly supple carbonation. The aftertaste is like dank, citrus laden hop bread.
Double Point is a well constructed DIPA and my favorite to-date from Bone Hook.
Slight aside- This review was intended to be for Bone Hook's Dirty Dave's IPA. Unfortunately the growler lost all carbonation and rendered the brew something unintended by the brewery. Their sales manager, Michelle, reached out and totally made things right. Great customer service can be hard to come by these days so I felt compelled to share the experience. Awesome folks there at Bone Hook!
