mixed fermentation thing aged long in pinot noir barrels, a cool beer, it was the packaging that drew me in, and it was rad to have a few different from these guys within a few days, some really cool beer. this one is pretty sour, vinous, and to me not as truly wild and original tasting on the ferment as i hoped it would be, the elements and even the proportions are familiar, not a bad thing, its pleasant, but all the way from alaska i think i was expecting a little more uncommon overall, but its nice beer. bronze tinted brew, unfiltered looking but not at all unrefined, with a short but lasting white wispy head, a little less carbonation overall that it wants, but its close. nose is neat, very much red wine forward, accentuated by the lactic sourness, which to my nostrils overrun the brett and any other yeast in here, but its appealing, lemony and with some grain support, not that light but still kind of delicate, if such a thing is possible. the flavor is right there too, sourer than expected but with more of the funk as it warms and quite a lot of wood, tannic and tart, hints of green apple, dried apricot, and the berry notes of the pinot noir, trace vanilla, white pepper, and spruce character. good malt body, tangy minerality, late stone fruit, white wine notes too. tasty but definitely not as distinctive as i hoped and expected, and not even close to as impressive as the hay there bottle i had a couple of nights later. that said, im stoked on these guys, glad i have another one to try in the cellar, seems like some really ambitious beers with cool ingredients, processes, and solid technique. this was a cool one to share, wine heavy and sour.
