not a bad beer, but this is really homebrewy and amateurish, if you dont mind that sort of thing. its murky and almost flat from the tap, with a medium brown color, light looking in shade for a stout but plenty thick. the nose is strong in the vanilla department, extra sweet with the residual grain sugar in here, and with the coffee there behind it, roasty but mild. the flavor is very sweet, too much for me, even a small pour of this feels like a lot because of it. it tastes a little strong, although i do now know the abv, i would think it to be near the 8% range, yet its still real sugary. the coffee could be ramped up a bit, as could the darker barley malt, this needs a deeper more bitter dark side, it ends up more like a sweet brown ale than a stout. more coffee would assuredly help this. the flavor here though is very good, despite the beer being a bit syrupy and still, the most important thing is the taste, and they have that pretty well down. with some refinement, this could be a good one, but it has the overall vibe of a beer very much still in process...
