i just love this idea, a smoked porter with pineapple, the first i have ever seen of its kind, but this seemingly unlikely combination yields a spectacular beer that really impressed us! lighter in color for a porter, with some red hues in the light. aroma of fresh sliced pineapple and campfire smoke together, the sweetness of the fruit seeming to balance the slightly harsh smoke, and the freshness is a cool thematic contrast to the burning notes, circle of life kind of thing. the pineapple is behind the smoke in the flavor, or rather the smoke comes first and the pineapple second, sweet and juicy and authentic, a nice change of pace from the earthy dense smoke. i like the body being a little bit lighter here, there is enough flavor for this to not need to be huge in structure as well. i also really like the smoke with the fruit, it doesnt produce a grilled pineapple complexion at all though, which i sort of suspected, its more complex than that, and in succession rather than all at once. pretty clever little beer here with the right proportions, sounds odd but it really works. this place is awesome!
