Brewed with Golden Promise malt from Scotland and a generous portion of malted and flaked oats, The Vennel pours black with hints of mahogany and a creamy tan head. Named for a passageway between buildings in old Scottish towns, it exudes pleasant coffee character with added flavors of baker's chocolate and light roast on the finish. Mildly carbonated for a rounded mouthfeel.

Can
Look- Pours black, light head.
Smell- Settled- The usual roasted malts Bubbly- gets a creamy vanilla milky smell. Reminds me slightly of a root beer float.
Taste- Roasty, bitter coffee after taste. Slips fast doesn't linger too long.
Feel- Carbonated not to harsh feel leaves with the taste.
Overall 3.75

pours a light fizzy tan head with lower retention, little lacing, dark almost black color
Nose brings layers of chocolate, ganache, cocoa, dark chocolate, creamy chocolate oatmeal, a little roast and coffee, a little toasted cereal grain as well
Taste brings nice creamy oatmeal, toasted grainy cereal and rich oats, layers of chocolate again, ganache, cocoa, dark chocolate, a little roast and coffee again, a hint of baking spice, some bitterness from roast and a little spicy hop note, mild sticky finish, a little dry, bit more bitterness lingering and baking spices
Mouth is med to a bit fuller bod, creamy almost chewy oatmeal, med foamy carb
Overall solid oatmeal stout, just the kinda thing I enjoy on a cool spring night

Poured a dark chocolate color with a 2F head in a Stone Snifter.
Aroma: heavy roasted, malt, coffee, chocolate.
MF: light body, creamy
Taste: excellent: heavy roasted malt, coffe and choco, ate.
Overall: quite enjoyable to drink. The Scottish Golden Promise malt, the flaked and malted oats give the beer a rich character with a low ABV.
