Had this at the Bistro's 2018 barrel aged festival. Lady friend kept talking about it so I told her to check it out, especially since that Bruery beer (Grandma Katz's Oatmeal) wasn't the greatest memory I had of beer. Pours a dark amber color with good clarity for something that could have actual cookies in it. Smallish tan head 1/4" deep. Aroma had a little bit of cinnamon to it, but other than that, was mild up in the nose.
Taste was smooth, a little bit of the whiskey barrel there, cinnamon again, caramel and toffee notes. Hopping is virtually absent, as well it should be for a beer like this, no bitterness. Isn't sticky despite the ingredients being sticky outside of a beer. Hides abv well, no heat. Slight nutmeg influence. Actually this is probably the best oatmeal cookie beer I've had, albeit a really small sample size.
I enjoyed it and think its a worthy beer, especially for those who don't like sour or hoppy beer, but you don't want barleywine levels of strength either. Good niche.
