a hopped up kolsch here, nice for summer, a cool expression of a hop a lot of people are still unfamiliar with, and a little more flavorful than a lot of these are. unfortunately though, the hoppiness comes at the expense of the drinkability and refreshment, at least a little bit, and i found myself wanting another flavor instead of another pint of this. the hops are both grassy and bitter in this, and then also citrusy and juicy, a little high in dose here maybe for a kolsch, but it definitely makes this beer unique as the style goes. mostly clear and with an average white head on it, but its not quite as bright and light looking as the best of these. the hops really take over some of the classic german grain and yeast nuance, its not as old worldy as it could be, but still identifiable as a kolsch, and still with a finishing crispness i need and love in the style. the hops kind of take over, but its a cool backdrop for the idaho 7, and i think this is a good recipe overall, just a little americanized. a lighter body would help this drink a little easier, but overall they did a nice job with it, definitely unique.
