From the very street we call home, to the gentle bend in the pathway in front of the brewery, much of this town was shaped by the railway history. The trains still rumble by our door a few times a day.
This refreshing and crisp west coast style IPA has a healthy dose of malted rye, plenty of hops in the boil and a thorough dry hop. This IPA is very approachable.

473mL can, freshness date appears to be smudged
L: slightly hazed orange colored ale; tall foamy beige head
S: grapefruity citrus, pine, earthy rye, caramelized grain
T: earthy rye, caramel, grain, grapefruit, orange, pungent pine
F: medium body, ample carbonation, dry & bitter finish
O: I always love a Rye IPA. This was good. I’d buy more if we were staying in Canmore longer.

On tap at Canmore Brewing in Canmore, Alberta.
This one pours a clear dark orange color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells pretty heavily of rye, with a resinous and pithy bitterness, some orange and grapefruit, and a heavy but appealing maltiness.
I think the rye is really carrying this one, as I’m not sure this would be as enjoyable of an IPA without the heavy, drying rye bitterness. The base IPA is pretty malty sweet, but rich enough to be enjoyable. This is pretty resinous in the end, in an enjoyable way.
This is medium bodied, with a drying and refreshing bitterness on the end.
This was probably my favorite of the various beers I tried from this brewery.

Pours a clear amber/pale copper colour with finger plus of off white/ cream coloured head.
Spicy piney rye hoppiness on the nose - a touch of a fruity note, caramel malt.
Taste piney, again the spicy rye note, caramel malt but sweetness washed away by building piney yet slightly tropical hop bitterness.
Decent carbonation - thin side of medium mouthfeel but seems appropriate as the bitterness lingers - deliciously so.

L: Pours a brilliant yellow orange with a very creamy large white head and lacing all around the glass.
S: Slightly ripe tropical fruit mixed with a strong pine from the hops, notes of caramel and the spicy rye.
T: Strong pine and piney bitterness, mixes with some spicy rye and then some caramel.
F: Medium body, slightly prickly carbonation.
O: This is a pretty solid old school ipa.

473ml can - so named, because, well, rye and railroads, baby!
This beer pours a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves some decent dissipating fog bank lace around the glass as it slowly but surely sinks away.
It smells of tropical fruit-scented chewing gum, grainy and bready caramel malt, a bit of earthy yeastiness, and weak leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a lesser rye spiciness, muddled domestic citrus rind, a hint of roasted and earthy nuttiness, and more rather underwhelming leafy, weedy, and dead floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its palate-coddling frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and mostly smooth, with a wee airy creaminess evolving as things warm up a tad around here. It finishes off-dry, the malt really the only lingering show in town, as the hops apparently have someplace better to be.
Overall, this comes off much more like a rye or brown ale than anything particularly IPA-like - the fruity and bitter notes of the hops are just too muted and damned-near forgettable. Not exactly my cup of tea, but it will probably work as a gateway brew of sorts (and probably win a medal at the so-called Canadian International Beer Awards).

A test batch canned by the brewery immediately prior to their opening in early 2017. Apparently there has been a bit of tweaking of the recipies since the initial opening but it seems like they got the IPA down right off the bat. Pours a pale amber colour with a solid finger of white foam. Lots of floral and citrus on the nose. Similar taste but with noticable caramel maltiness, along with a spiciness from the rye. Mouthfeel is great, ideal carbination drinking it right out of the can but more smoothness when poured into a glass. Overall a solid first offering from this new brewery near the AB-BC border, and certainly some welcomed competetion to grizzly paws Evo IPA.
