Brewed with 100% specialty malts from our small German supplier and hopped with Mittelfruh, this beer is a tribute to the ages before the onslaught of golden lager.

Nice rendition of an altbier. Nicely balanced flavor that avoids being too sweet. Really unfortunate that this isn't a standard offering as it's an easy drinker for all seasons.

Cloudy, darker amber color--near brown, but not quite. The head is moderate but fades quickly, forming rim bubbles after a minute or so. Some minor spotting for lace.

Caramel malt smell. Not sweet. There's a distracting metallic nose as well.

The flavor is a step up from the smell. The caramel is more prominent and bit more sweet. Full bodied with muted carbonation. Short aftertaste with drier chocolate notes. Outside of the nose, this beer is true to the Düsseldorf form.

Canned 10/18/17

Pours a nice fluffy foamy 1 finger head that fades at a slower pace, some sticky lacing, slight hazy iced tea brown color

Nose sweet toasty brown malts, little biscuity, little candy malt like notes, not quite caramel maybe candi sugar thing, some mild grassy hops in the background

Taste starts with lots of malts again, toasty biscuity brown malts, a little sweet candy almost biscuity toffee note, honey cake, mild fruity lager notes, with a mild grassy earthy hop, just a touch of bitterness. Finishes drier but a touch sticky sweet, bit more of that honey cake and brown malts, abit of cola syrup.

Mouth is med bod a bit syrupy, a bit light on carb

Overall not bad, malt profile was nice and interesting, hop level wasn't really what I expected for an altbier, but not too far off from the style at least, def enjoyable for what it was.
