Springdale Barrel Room "But I Digress"
16 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON: 05 07 18 BEST BY 07 02 18" and sampled on 09 17 18
$5.99 @ DeCicco & Sons, Brewster, NY

Notes via stream of consciousness: So this can is old, thanks DeCiccos, this isn't the first old beer I've gotten from you. At least it was stored cold. It's poured a cloudy deep orange colored body beneath a short head of yellowed off-white. The aroma doesn't seem to have suffered any from a few extra months, and it's bright and fruity with pineapple, peach, and orange, as well as being floral, spicy, resinous, "dank", and piney. Wow, that's nice! I can only hope the flavor is just as good so here goes... well it's not, but it's still pretty damned good. I'm getting less pineapple but more peach, and some additional notes of mango, papaya, guava, berry, and melon. The floral and spicy notes remains as well. Impressive! The base is a simple, straightforward golden malt that's lightly sweet, and median bitterness balances it leading to a dry finish with lots of fruit and a soft note of resin and pine steadily fading away. In the mouth it's medium leaning towards medium-light and smooth with a fine-bubbled, median carbonation. Along the way I've noticed that the head retention isn't that great, and the lacing is quite limited, but the aroma is fantastic, and the flavor is quite good as well. Well worth seeking out!

Dated 7/28/18 on the bottom of the can (with a best by 9/18/18 under it), 13 days since brewing.

Pours an unfiltered deep orange/amber with less than a finger of sudsy off-white head. Complex nose; notes of candied apricot, gooseberry, wet leaves, slight floral, spiced orange marmalade, blueberry jam and portuguese sweet bread. A very welcoming and attention grabbing aroma. The taste however, does not live up to the hype of the nose. It muddles the notes of the nose in to an amalgamation of sweet, earthy potpourri and mixed tropicals + berries. I can still detect the florals, sweet bread and candied apricot distinctly. Smooth medium body for only a 6% brew, average carbonation. At the price point, I'll pick this one up again; I'm just bummed out about the change from smell to taste. Do they make a imperial version of this? I'd love to try it!

Hmm. Was expecting more ... sounds sexy on the can: “absurdly hopped”, “sometimes we can’t wait”. Actually sweet and malty, kinda old school NE IPA, not absurdly hopped at all. Very very orange for an IPA, probably toasting and malt. 15 years ago it would have been pretty cool, but now it is unremarkable. Probably wouldn’t purchase again (definitely not for more than $3.50/can for WNY prices). 6% alcohol is almost sessionable ... maybe I’d take it over “all day ipa” if offered at a party. Faint praise I guess ...

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a mostly clear dark orange color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.

This smells pretty malty unfortunately, with some light astringency, orange rind, grapefruit, and piney hops.

The taste is similarly overly sweet and too malty for the style, with astringent hop flavor, and overripe oranges. I expected quite a bit more out of this one.

This is light bodied, with a tough bitterness on the finish. It's not incredibly drinkable.

This felt fairly pedestrian to me, unfortunately. I didn't enjoy it all that much.

Picked-up a four-pack of cans at Long Ridge Wine and Spirits in Plymouth for about fourteen dollars. Tried the Good N You before, which I preferred over this. Decent brew, but nothing special, would not buy again.

Poured from the can, darker amber color than expected. Pretty fresh NE IPA taste.

16 oz. canned on: 03 15 18

Pours cloudy opaque dark orange with a frothy white foam head. Smells sweet and juicy, full of ripe fruit character with pungent notes of mango, peach, pineapple, apricot, melons, subtle blueberry, papaya, guava, passionfruit, orange citrus, grapefruit, some lavender, delicate wild flowers, bready toasty malt, with floral resinous earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like juicy ripe mango, peach, pineapple, melons, apricot, papaya, blueberry, guava, passionfruit, orange citrus, grapefruit, lavender, wild flowers, bready toasty malt, with floral resinous earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium plus bodied, creamy with moderate carbonation. Overall a really nice IPA with Amarillo, Simcoe and Citra hops.
