Brown sour oak aged with fresh figs, it presents aromas of brown sugar, tobacco and caramel apples. Flavors of fresh fig are given depth with woodsy, cedar-like character that precedes a bright, snappily acidic finish.

Poured on draft at the brewery.
Pours a deep mahogany color with a half finger of off-white head. The head leaves minimal lacing as it settles into a ring around the top of the beer.
The aroma brings notes of candied apples, caramel, figs, and wood chips.
The flavor follows the nose: Caramel, candied apples, fig newtons, wood chips, and sweet bread.
The feel is medium bodied with good carbonation. Very tart, crisp, and dry.
Overall, a great wild ale that is both tart and refreshing and full of flavor.

Every once in a while a beer comes along that is defining. Sours have such an array of deliverables, styles, and process. I was so excited to have this beer given to me by John from Jack’s Abby.
Before I give my notes, let me explain my methodology if rating between styles. I believe it is not fair judgement to rate styles against styles. It’s like giving an orange a bad rating because you like apples. I do my best to rate within a category based on what I’ve liked best. I will start out by saying that sours are not my go to.
This all being said, this was a defining moment in my experience with sours. The label describes this as an oak aged sour, and also an American wild ale.
This blew me out of the park.
So surprisingly complex an fulfilling. I look forward to this beer in many more sittings.

Thanks John
