Having this immediately following the unspiced Kölsch Money. It should be interesting to see the differences that the orange peel and bitters make in the style
Pours a bit more cloudy than the base beer, but still a nice golden color with 2 fingers of off white head that quickly fades to a ring and leaves no lacing
The vinous character is still there, but the orange peel comes through and adds a wonderful earthy balance to the crisp and sweet aromas
The orange feels very juicy in the start of the sip and pairs well with the slight tart lemon notes. There is a certain sweetness that is coaxed out from the malt when paired with the peppery bitters. The aftertaste is long and citrusy sweet
The same light body as the last with a touch more carbonation, this is still very refreshing. The finish is a bit more sticky than the last, but I expected such would happen with the addition of adjuncts
To be honest, I’m not sure which of the 2 beers are better. The classic Kölsch was extremely refreshing and quite simple. This had more going on, but was not quite as refreshing. Regardless, Springdale knows how to keep things both classic and interesting
