Getting back to the Not Stirred series of cocktail inspired sours, we have a riff on the amaro cocktails of local distillery Bully Boy, who also collaborated on this brew. Aged 18 months in their American whiskey barrels with botanicals added, this is sure to be an interesting entry into the series
Pours a cloudy deep gold with a finger of white head that fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose on this one is something. It's like if I dropped a shot of Amaro Averna into a light sour beer. I'm picking up on aromas of earthy whiskey, juniper berries, buttery oak, white pepper, funky leather, star anise, toffee, wet hay, lemon peel, and apple skin. Odd, but quite nice
This is just as strange in taste, if not slightly less expressive than the nose led me to believe. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting light orange, star anise, and funky leather. The swallow brings notes of smokey whiskey, smooth oak, apple skin, wet hay, and tart lemon
A light medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth and tingling tart beer. Finishes off dry with a touch of tartness to remind me that the base beer is a sour
This one is strange indeed. Definitely fun and worth a try, but this series has much better offerings
