A subtle roastiness takes center stage in this session porter brewed to complement Protocol cigars.

Pours a dark brownish color with about a finger of head. There was more hoppiness than roast on the nose. The flavor was very weak even for a modest ABV porter.

Sampled March 2019 from a tap in pint style glass.
Appearance: Very dark black, with a 1 finger thick dark tan head. The head is smooth, but it is not creamy, instead it has larger bubbles, like many porters. The head lasted only a short length of time, and did not leave much lacing on the side of the glass.
Smell: Mild hops aroma. Also coffee and roasted malt aromas. A little sweetness in the aroma as well. Nice combination and balance between the various aromas for an interesting bouquet. None of the aromas were over-powering.
Taste: Subtle roasted malt and coffee flavors. Also some bitterness from hops and sweetness like caramel. Medium-bodied with interesting balance of flavors. It is very smooth, and has a very good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, with medium alcohol which matches with the 5.8% listed at the brewery.
Overall: This porter is very good. It has subtle flavors with none of the flavors over-powering the others, which allowed for a discovery of new flavors with each taste. I liked this porter, and would definitely buy it again. I would also like to try an imperial version of this porter, and maybe even barrel aged, as a special run.
