The Broad Table Tavern is located on the ground floor of The Inn at Swarthmore. Both are a really short walk from the Swarthmore train station on the SEPTA Media-Elwyn line and provide convenient access to the College campus.
Open to 11 pm.
This is the only place inside the physical limits of Swarthmore Borough allowed to sell beer for on site consumption. There is both a bar area and a dining area and you can just stop in for a beer or have one with your meal.
The tap and bottle selections are fairly well chosen to represent both the local brewing scene and some worthwhile beers from other regions. For example, they seem to regularly have a tap for Yard's Brawler (a low ABV dark mild beer) but most of the taps seem to rotate and so they've had such things as the Firestone Walker Pivo Pils on tap (one of the better Pils beers). I would, however, prefer a bit wider selection of bottled beers.
Generally the service is prompt, attentive and the staff seem friendly and talkative.
The food emphasizes farm to table and the meals I've chosen have been quite nice and were well prepared. They serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Prices are on the high side but not unreasonable for some of the dishes when dining out.
There is seating in the bar area. There are both tables and booths in the dining area and there is also an outside patio where you can eat when the weather is good. My major complaint about the indoor ambiance is that the noise level can get much too high when the place is a bit crowded.
