NO can date
Pours a med fizzy tan head with med retention, a bit of foamy lacing, dark but clear chestnut color, should have some head retention
Nose is nice, biscuity brown malts, a bit of toffee and light Maillard caramelizations, a little toasty and a bit of chocolate, even a bit nutty, and just a flash of malt-derived dark fruits
Taste brings lots more malts, quite malty which is nice, toasted brownish malts, a little biscuity again, as well as the caremlized Maillard flavors but more than the nose, some toffee, a bit nutty as well, nice rich bread crust, a hint of chocolate late, and again just a flash of malt-derived dark fruit esters, light bitterness and no real hop flavor until the finish where there is a hint of an herbal hop note, finish a bit drier but on the sticky side, lingering toffee, caramelizations, and rich malts
Mouth is med to a bit fuller bod, a tad syrupy, soft lager as well, med foamy carb, alcohol about where it should be
Overall not bad, a nice bock, would have liked a bit more hop presence for the style but OK, I personally like a bit more malt-derived fruity esters but its OK without, enjoyable. Another good beer from Shovel Town. I'm really glad that cans started showing up around here.
