Pours a frothy thick semi dense 1.5 finger tan head with big bubbles, great retention, sticky lacing, dark molasses brown to black color
Nose cocoa, dark chocolate, biscuity toasted malt, a bit of wafer cookie and baking spices, nice roast, solid rich roast without being burnt or acrid, some coffee
Taste more rich dark malts, biscuity toasted brown malts, cocoa and some dark chocolate, quickly into rich roast again, coffee notes, nice full roast but far from burnt again, some baking spices, a hint of vanilla, a bit more of the wafer cookie dough biscuity character, fair spicy hops in the background with med bitterness, mild dry finish with med to a bit higher bitterness
Mouth is med to fuller bod, fairly rich, smooth, med frothy carb
Overall this is fantastic, almost perfect for an everyday drinking American porter, great roast and malt profile, nice hops and bitterness, good balance, nice finish, all around just an awesome porter. Shovel Town continues to impress me.
