Wissahickon Brewing Company "Raisin Kane"
$4/half pint on tap at the brewery on 14 July 2018
Look: Clear deep chestnut brown body beneath a short head of creamy off-white foam. Good head retention and lacing.
Aroma: Cinnamon, brown sugar, dark skinned fruits, and caramelish and lightly toasty malt.
Taste: Without being overly sweet it tastes like an oatmeal raisin cookie. Amazing! The raisin comes through, as does the cinnamon, and the oats. Very nicely balanced in original malt content and balancing bitterness (20 IBUs). Additionally it's 8.2% abv but the alcohol never shows.
Feel: Medium bodied with a dextrinous feel but not really headed into medium-full thickness. Delicately bristling with a fine-bubbled carbonation.
Overall: Massively impressive! To pull off the oatmeal raisin cookie connection is a feat in and of itself, but then to keep it from becoming sweet and maintaining a high level of drinkability is something else. Well worth seeking out.
