In a clear pint glass, after being drawn from a tap, it's dull and very opaquely dirty blond. The head is modest, just off-white and enduring. Very mild strains of hops, perhaps piney and starchy, likely not barley malt, emanate. It's a shame this brings so little to taste. The mouthfeel is smooth and supple. Its body provides one of the prettiest examples of glass lacing one could get from a modern IPA. The ABV is spot on for its style and almost tasteless. As it warms a bit, there's a little more citrus/pine hop aspect to taste, but this is never going to be bold. It is always going to be smooth, soft bodied and pretty to look at.

Wissahickon Brewing Co. "Supernova"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating

Notes via stream of consciousness: A cloudy yellow gold body is capped by a massive head of bright whtie foam. It seems to have some carbonation to it! It looks a lot like a Bavarian hefeweiven but it doesn't smell like it. It's citrusy and berry-like. It's not really that bright but it does read "DDH" on the front of the label. The taste delivers much more on the hop side with additional notes of passionfruit, soft nectarine, and delicate pine. I'm a little surprised at how much of a berry character I'm finding. The malt is basic but clearly includes oats which lend it a floral character. I'll assume there's wheat and 2-row barley in there as well. There could be some Pilsner malt as well but I'm not sure, and you get the idea anyway. It's not that bitter and I think we can safely call this a New England style IPA. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp upfront, but then pillowy smooth in the finish with all of those extra proteins. The head has held up really well and I still have a fairly thick and still solid surface covering. There's one little spot that's a touch thin but you can't see the surface of the beer itself. Unfortunately the lacing isn't quite as good which is weird. I wonder if I have a less than "beer clean" glass. In the end I don't find this to be a "supernova" at all. It's on the milder side but also very quaffable.
