16oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - this one's been around for a while now, but I just keep missing out on it. No more!
This beer appears a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with one skinny finger of weakly puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy dirty white head, which leaves some decent melting glacier profile lace around the glass as things slowly progress.
It smells of semi-sweet, grainy and bready caramel malt, mixed domestic citrus peel, a bit of further tropical fruitiness, some mild damp minerality, and more leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a touch of oatmeal cereal, some muddled pome and citrus fruity notes, a hint of earthy yeastiness, tame wet stones, and more edgy leafy, grassy, and piney hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its palate-assuring frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with just a touch of hop acridity marring the surface sheen here. It finishes off-dry, the mixed malt seeing a bit of a challenge from the lingering forest floor detritus hops.
Overall - this comes across as a pleasantly rendered version of the style, with the added oatmeal more or less contributing to a denser mouthfeel, essentially. Easy enough to throw back on a breezy and sunny, warm mid-May afternoon in the ol' Chuk.
