A Schwarzbier with oats. Aroma of coffee/roasted malt, and smooth finish of bittersweet chocolate with a hint of smoke. Light and sessionable despite the dark appearance. 35 ibus

On tap at Silver Lake Brewing Project in Perry, NY.
This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like roasted malt, smoke, and some grassy hoppiness.
This is really solid, with a good roasty character, some dark breadiness, and a just a hint of herbal and grassy hop bitterness on the back end.
This is medium bodied, crisp, and very drinkable.
Silver Lake is definitely good at these more old fashioned styles, and that's pretty much what I always order from there.

This Schwarzbier lives up to its name, as it is black, with faint, dark red highlights. A two-inch, foamy chestnut head glistens within a Harp nonic.
Sweet malt yields to light roast and caramel. Latte and pumpernickle dough are also present, followed by a slight and pleasant sourness.
The flavor brings to mind iced coffee with a fair amount of roasted malt. Caramelized malt lends a light bitterness that outweighs the sweetness. There is some toasted bread and a modest, lingering finish that draws out bitterness.
A medium to light body with a silky texture and modest carbonation. There is no hint of alcohol, however, there is a light astringency.
This is a decent drinking beer, especially well suited to a cool, Autumn afternoon. I can imagine light conversation with friends. This really has an Autumnal feeling, appearance, aroma, and flavor.
