A Mexican hot chocolate inspired Stout. It has a rich velvety body from a generous portion of flaked barley and little chocolate character from chocolate malts. Added ancho chili, chipotle moritas, cinnamon, and nutmeg late in the boul. Then added more ancho chili, chipotle moritas, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and cocoa nibs as the dry spices during post fermentation. The result is a slightly sweet, slightly smoky, spiced stout with the tiniest bit of spice in the finish.

A long-lasting, fluffy chestnut head leaves no lacing on a Pretentious Beer Glass Company Aromatic Snifter. The beer is deep, dark brown with dark auburn highlights, almost black. SRM 34-36.
Given that this is inspired by Mexican Hot Chocolate, the aromas are shockingly subtle. This said, cinnamon, chocolate, and sweet lactose are present. A light cola aroma amplifies as warmth draws out hot peppers.
The flavor is a bit muddled between all the spices. Knowing what to look for helps to identify nutmeg, cinnamon, and pepper. Cocoa is also detectible in the fray. The beer is far less sweet than expected, while roasted malt and bitterness are far more present than expected. The finish is long and moderate, primarily comprised of spicy heat. Warmth brings out a mild, unpleasant aftertaste.
A medium body with the texture of felt and a slick sidenote. The heat is modest. The alcohol is fully present and slightly higher than expected. Carbonation is soft and fizzy.
While this is a decent Stout, the Mexican Hot Chocolate is far short of what others have been able to achieve. I did enjoy it on a mild, early Spring afternoon and feel, had I not expected more, this beer may have scored better. In short, it suffers from expectations based on their own marketing.

On tap at Silver Lake Brewing in Perry, NY.
This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a fluffy white head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like light spicing - cinnamon and dry peppery, along with chocolate fudge, cocoa powder, and vanilla.
This is fairly dry-tasting up front, with roast and spice, but then finishes smoothly with a light sweetness, with both dark and milk chocolate, a touch of coffee, and some vanilla-esque creaminess.
This is medium bodied, creamy, and very drinkable, with a smooth finish.
This isn't anything to knock your socks off, but it's enjoyable enough.
