Pint served from cask at the pub June 19, 2019
(the pub has three beer engines for cask ale)
L: murky gold-amber, small thin silky head of white foam, slight lacing, minimal sticking; the pour from the cask is fantastic (4.5+) but the beer begins looking a bit dull over the final half (3.5); still, it offers a decent cask fix for an anglophile stuck in Texas
S: light bread malt, peach, sweet but just barely, grain/sour grain; simple with the lightly sweet bread malt dominating
T: strong bitter peach, hints of caramel, apple, pear; the earthy bitter hops occasionally add a citrus peel flavor, like a grapefruit peel or an unripe orange peel; the earthiness can take over at times, but there's hints of malty things always going on
F: starts off cask perfect with that thin layer of crispness surrounding a gooey soft middle; halfway into the glass it begins losing its crispy layer but still good (and kind of expected for a cask ale)
O: a truely lovely experience and massive kudos to Draught House for brewing and caring for a good cask ale; my only quibble with it is the high ABV ... if it were in the 3.5-4.0% ABV range, wow! still, it's a dang good beer and easily the best pint on cask I've had in Texas, granted that's sadly a very small sample size
