Complex layers of bready and roasted malts, coupled with English hops and yeast make this chocolate stout a treat worthy of returning for seconds.

tasty chocolate stout here, english at its core which gives it some interest beyond the added chocolate, its smooth and not heavy, and i love it not being a barrel aged or imperial, they have a series of those in here too which are cool, but sometimes its nice to drink dark and flavorful without a huge alcohol commitment. looks near black but also just a touch thin without a ton of bubbles or head, but a clean looking dark ale. the aroma isnt overly sweet, this isnt one of those milked up dessert chocolate beers, its a more adult profile, dark earthy chocolate with its bitterness relatively unmolested by sweeter middle malts, a hint of coffee, toffee, and cigar here as well, and then some bready english yeast. the flavor is there solid, chocolate starts early, and it is a little one dimensional up front, but the roast has some depth, coffee and raisin wrinkles, light smoke, and good back end bitterness, some hops even peaking through which is uncommon in these i reckon. its smooth yet slightly watered down feeling, some oats or something could give this the creaminess i think the flavors, especially the chocolate brownie aspect, want. still, i like this not being sugary and the fact that it is easier drinking than many of its peers. we had a blast in here and i was pleased with most of their stuff. this is good winter beer.

Appearance - From the tap, the beer was black in color was a mocha colored head.
Smell - The nose was composed of roasty malts and radiated a dark profile.
Taste - The initial taste was roasty and not overly sweet. It was a well balanced American stout without a bunch of adjuncts cluttered with beer and making it too sweet. Dark chocolate notes were nicely mingled with the malts. There was even a hint of spice.
Mouthfeel - The carbonation was well balanced to allow a smooth profile.
Overall - The is a great straightforward stout.
