really strange and captivating beer, weird enough to be a novelty type drink, but fun and interesting enough to not be, its a simple cream ale type base, but done with sassafras to make it mimic root beer, it may also have some vanilla in it, as it does have that almost sexy sweet richness to it, im not that familiar with sassafras on its own, but the result is a beer that almost hits like a root beer float, pretty incredible really, and even if it ends up as a small doses thing for me, i couldnt help but be impressed with it, never seen a beer quite like it! a shade deeper than blonde but way more pale than actual root beer, short white head from the tap, big carbonation in terms of bubble size, which lends to the soda vibe too. the nose and taste are the same, broad enough to fill a room it seems, genuine brewed root beer character emanating, vanilla bean, herbal tea, a cola note, the actual sassafras of course, light cocoa even, and some caramel sweetness, it lingers on the palate but is so intriguing that i dont mind, and while yeah its definitely sweet, its not over the top, certainly less sweet than a soda, and the beer elements do come through, the pale malt is neat with the root beer character, and there might even be a cooler fermented yeast aspect if i go looking for it, which keeps this from being a straight flavor added thing. i cant drink a lot of this, not sure anyone can, but its clever and well executed for what it is, and really does taste like root beer beer, nicely done!
