Received a 750 ML bottle via trade with former BA @BMBCLT 1-14-23. 2018 vintage consumed 1-18-24.
Beer poured mahogany-brown with a very nice head with the original pour.
Nose is very nice with strong notes of dark fruits and a touch of leather and barrel lingering in the background.
Taste is truly a clash of the two barleywine styles as i am getting notes of fig and raisin from the malt base that is hopped by a still relevant citrus and rind hop bill. Finishes balanced from the barrel that is just hanging on and the hopping that is still relevant.
Mouthfeel does not feel like a barleywine as i noticed a fair amount of carbonation present and the body being thinner than what is typically found with high-gravity beers.
Overall i am very thankful to @BMBCLT the opportunity to try a barleywine brewed on a 3-barrel pilot system!

Pours a rich copper with voluminous head that leaves some attractive lacing behind. Plum, bourbon heat and oak, red jujube, black licorice, and tannic aromas. I like the idea of a blend of American and English barleywines, but the outcome is a bit muddled here. I feel like the hop bitterness and resin of an American barleywine is clashing with the caramel, leather, and dark stonefruit of an English, resulting in some dissatisfying destructive interference. I also get too much of a pure ethanol note that stands apart from the more pleasant flavors. Interesting and still pretty enjoyable, but not as well constructed as I'd like.

Appearance: Pours mahogany with a two finger ecru head; very good retention and gobs of splashy lacing
Smell: Brown sugar, caramel, pecan and date, enveloped by Bourbon
Taste: Brown sugar and caramel tones forward with hints of pecan and date in the mix; the Bourbon pushes aside the the more subtle tones, in the middle, along with an assertive bitterness; the finish has a blend of sweet, bitter and boozy elements but it is unbalanced with too much Bourbon flavor
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation
Overall: This one needs some more time to mature as the Bourbon and the bitterness need to mellow out to complement rather than overwhelm the other elements; I would be likely to rate this higher in a year
