a nice porter here, and really a perfect beer for this late fall time of year where it gets dark all early and the winds are chilly. i like how dark this is, black in the glass with a major shine and a short mocha colored head that settles back in to a patchy lace on the edges of the surface. it smells like heavy roast and not a lot of the usual caramel malt sweetness in the middle to balance, so i get black coffee and almost charred bitterness all the way through it. there is a trace of molasses sweetness, and this finishes off dry, but the roasted aspect of the grain is nicely pronounced here. the body is silky and light for how dark this is, smooth and mellow and without a lot of carbonation, but i dont miss it. subtle raisin and fig dried fruitiness here, a hint of rum or something too, and finally a long coffee forward finish, although there is none in here. i taste it on my tongue and teeth awhile after the swallow, but its pleasant, chocolaty, and wintery. one of the better beers on their menu right now i reckon...
