Originally brewed to celebrate our 160th anniversary in Frankenmuth on the banks of the Cass River, its mass appeal prompted us to bring it back! A traditionally brewed golden lager, also known as “maibock beer,” this lager is made with Munich, Vienna, and Pilsener malts while bittered with German Noble hops. Full flavored with a mild hop presence.
FOOD PAIRINGS: Beef, chicken and sausage; great with sauerkraut.

Pours clear, amber/copper, with ample fine carbonation racing throughout. A big, off-white head briefly holds two and a half inches before slowly settling to a thick, dense blanket. Thick patches of lace are deposited on a Pretentious Glass Company pub pint. The last half ounce brought down yeast sediment and clouded the glass.
Strong toasted malt blends well with light floral hops. Caramel builds with spicy malt and turns to apple juice as it warms.
The flavor follows the aroma with an odd bitterness that is out of character for the style. The finish has a bit of astringency.
The medium body and slick cotton texture work well with soft carbonation that fills the mouth. The alcohol is on target.
This is a decent drinking beer, even though the alcohol is too high for an afternoon session. One might still be tempted to give it a try. I can attest that it works well when accompanied by trail mix.
