Look: dark brown, hints of red when held up to the light. Bright frothy head lasts for a little while.
Smell: bright, toasty grain, something metallic
Taste: bright hints of pineapple give way to a very forward bright roasted coffee-bean flavour that lingers. A metallic aftertaste is tolerable but somewhat off-putting. Very simple overall, would be great with a little chocolate and more body.
Feel: surprisingly light, refreshing, not very thick. Very Nicaraguan in character, reminiscent of other domestic beers; I'd prefer a heftier stout.
This is the darkest domestic beer--and one of the first craft beers--available in Nicaragua. An interesting and refreshing attempt by a new brewery, but it leaves a bit to be desired in body and flavour. Worth a try if you enjoy lighter, brighter stouts. At ~120 córdobas restaurant price as of March 2017, it won't be my go-to beer, but it offers a nice change, albeit a complementary one, from the typical Toña.
