Tried at the brewery, late Oct 2005.

Very unispiring brew this one, considering it was the first of their "craft range" I tried. Very weak watery looking dark amber, some head, but not much.

Smell was very bland. Almost nothing there, a little malty sweetness, but that was about it.

Taste was just about the same. A little sweetness followed by a hint of dry bitterness. Almost nothing to detect, very bland, no character, no depth. You could drink it, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I actually thought their run-of-the-mill Gold Medal Ale was better than this one.

NZ trip Jan/Feb '04

A member of Speight's Craft range.

Aromas of citrus and tropical fruits with some hints of esters.

Palate is clean, crisp and a touch creamy. Only some slight bitterness. Fruit flavours with only a hint of malt. Very nice.

Good Pale Ale, and at $10.50NZ / 6 pack an absolute bargin!

Clear, golden yellow-straw body. Clingy, white head. Smells of honey-dipped biscuits, caramel-coated fruit malt with slight butteriness. Restrained hop zest/bitterness. Moderately sweet, vague malt base. Light hay and butter. A touch of toffee perhaps. Hops are a little spicy and herbal and otherwise vegetal. Mediocre. LIght-bodied PA, with residual stickiness. Dry finish. Doesn't stand out.
