Deep Creek Brewing is on the NW part of Deep Creek Lake in McHenry, Maryland - a gem as a vacation spot, anytime.

The atmosphere was a very home-like cabin with nice wooden furniture and a little patio deck. The quality was also good, I ended up getting the half-pound angus burger with sauteed onion and mushrooms with blue cheese, and a side of onion rings which all were superior for brewpub quality. I ended up getting the 8-piece, 3-ounce sampler ($6.45). Overall an average mix of beers with the Holy Cow IPA standing out the most of the eight sampled.

The service was also good, the waitress knew her stuff about brewing, and as I inquired about any stouts on tap, she quickly replied that an aggregate consensous proved people aren't looking for strong beers... oh well... Very attentive and not overly nice.

The selection was kind of ritz-y where entrees were in the $15-20 range, but my burger with the toppings and side of onion rings was just around $10. Overall selection was salads, sandwiches, pasta entrees, etc...

The food was pretty damn good as the quality factor suggests. Burger was maybe cooked a little too long, but that is understandable. The onion rings were a little heavier than I'm used too, but that's alright too.

Overall I thought this was very worthy given the limited eateries for the thousands on vacation out here. The food and beer prices are moderate, definately a stop if you're in the area or on vacation out here.

I was here a few weeks back on a Sunday with my housemates after a weekend of camping in Davis, WV. However, the county law is no alcohol sales on Sunday, so no beer was imbibe. The good part is we were all very hungry, and this place seemed like the right place to fill up I had a delicious burger and ordered the all you can eat salad bar very well maintained usually a salad bar is just a salad bar, but this one was an awesome salad bar everything was fresh... no slime on the cucumbers how do they do it... I think they should pass on that technology to other restaurants. Impressed and pleased with the food. So, I had to make it back after being turned down from imbibing the sweet nectar of the gods, after hitting up McHenry's I stopped in and what do ya know Tuesday afternoon not one of their Vacation seasons down there the head brewer Jason is having his lunch. Over a few beers we were talking about the industry and how he got it into it, and I can say this Deep Creek Brewing is going to be a solid establishment as long as this guy is hard at work in the brewhaus. He was an avid homebrewer got a job at a brewery while in CO, then went to brewing school with the American Brewer's Guild came out to MD in mid summer and landed this head brewing job. The newly rennovated dining area and deck are both amazing log cabin approach big stuffed bear representing their symbol just a cool place big padded wooden chairs I love it. As for the selection he had his regulars...Youghigohney Red, Mad Cow IPA, Deep Creek Gold, Angry Clown Brown, and very impressive seasonals a dunkel weizen and a scottish ale. Solid regulars in my opinion were the Red, Brown, and IPA but the dunkel was so tasty I got a two liter re-sealable growler to go. Pleasant stop got to chat with the brewer, and have a few very nice beers.

Deep Creek Brewing is in McHenry, MD, in the Deep Creek region of Western Maryland.

Atmosphere: What more atmosphere do you need than the natural beauty of Deep Creek? Built more in the cabin-ish style of the surrounding buildings (such as the nearby Visitors Center), the interior has a very rustic feel to it. Most of the people there seemed to be more regulars than tourists, and a good percentage seemed to enjoy the craft beer.

Quality/Selection: Deep Creek had 8 different beers when I went; 4 regulars (Deep Creek Gold, a Munich/Helles; Youghigheny Red, an amber ale; Holy Cow IPA and Kiss My Blarney Stone Stout) and 4 rotating taps. Most of the beers were fair if not spectacular representations of their styles, though the stout (as well as the rotating porter) was quite good.

Service: The service was average; not spectacular but not negligent either. The servers seemed to have a really good rapore with regulars though.

Deep Creek Brewing is a nice little brewery right in the heart of some amazing natural scenery. McHenry is worth an occasional day trip from Pittsburgh (probably about 2 hours), and one of the highlights of the trip should be a trip here, and along with shopping at McHenry Beverage, will make a great day for any beer lover.
