A: Pours an opaque yet still clear extremely dark brown approaching jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising quickly along the edges of the glass and moderate dark cola brown + dark chestnut brown colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering approximately 95% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of toasted oak + caramel + vanilla + bourbon over the top of moderate aromas of roasted + caramel + toasted malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel sweetness. Hints of earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of roasted + caramel + toasted malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of toasted oak + caramel + vanilla + bourbon. Very light amounts of earthy hops and a touch of roasty bitterness but the lingering flavor is that from the bourbon barrel aging.
M: Medium to full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth and slick. Light amounts of alcohol warming in the finish.
O: Drinks pretty easily considering the strength and it has a nice bourbon warming in the finish. Enjoyable base stout that is well complemented by the bourbon barrel aging. I would definitely have this one again.
