Aromatics of decadent chocolate-covered cherry, arabica coffee, cardamom, and baking spice give way to a plush mouthfeel on this double-mash imperial. Extended resting in stainless steel gives this release a distinct maturity achieved without aging in barrel.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly black and opaque in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, fudge, coffee, dark dried fruit; quite boozy. Flavor is dark toasted malt, fudge, strong coffee, dates and molasses. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess; nice mouth feel. A rich, chocolatey stout that feels and looks like a dessert stout, but has only a slight (and to my tasted, near perfect) sweetness. Apparently "rested in stainless steel", but not barreled, it has the malt and flavor depth of a barreled stout without the barrel flavors. Although there was a lot of alcohol in the aroma, the ABV is well covered in the taste, requiring careful slow savoring. I have been impressed with their recent big stouts and will not be missing them in the future.
