One of my friends made a run up to District 96 recently and since they've become one of my favorite breweries, nearly overnight, I was eager to give this a go. That had a name that will probably go down as the buzzworthy term of the year and the liquid inside was on par with what I've come to expect from these guys!
This had a nice, golden hue to it as it was perfectly cloudy and uniform in appearance without any sediment floating in it as only a few flecks settled at the bottom of the liquid. Plenty of soft, small-bubbled head topped it off as it took quite a while to settle down. There was lots of layered lacing down the side of my pint glass as it was layered, thick, and extensive and probably the best of it's kind in any beer that I've had in quite some time! Lots of lime, melon, and some exotic fruit in the nose as there was some cream, cantaloupe, and dank tropical fruit rind that entered the mix. As smooth as could be for something with Nelson and Motueka, there was a nice body and lively carbonation to this as the aftertaste tasted like brisk lime and boozy hops that seamlessly fit in with each other.
Amazingly, there wasn't a lot of alcohol to this as it felt stronger than it was in actuality. A bit too chalky and tangy to be rated higher, this was a nice beer that would please anyone who enjoys what these guys are putting out, even if there's not a freshness date on the can. The sweetness was enough to keep the edge of this from being too harsh as there was no need to stay six feet away from this, at anytime!

A: Pastel straw/chalky yellow pour from can. Even, creamline ecru colored head, fair retention.
S: Passionfruit and tart berry-like hibiscus. Sweet acacia. Soft oak/vanilla tannin. Citrus peel.
M: Med bodied feel. Seductively smooth, creamy, juiciness.
T: Smooth bitterness of an ultra-clean lime, fresh squeezed with the pulp. This is the biggest takeaway from the beer, so if you don't like lime--as it plays off all the other flavors from pulp to juice to zest--you might not prefer this beer. The Motueka hops add a lot while the tropical fruit, and overall sweetness, is very subdued but well-balanced. Lemongrass, pear, and honeydew ebb and sway with the lime. Florally sweet jasmine and honeysuckle finish.
O: Less earthy sweetness, but more floral with the same citrus canvas as Photo Op. If you like that beer give this a try.
