Love District 96 and have enjoyed all of their beers that I've reviewed on here but none of them were even as remotely as strong as this beast that I traded for a few months back. Took a while to get to it since I went away at the end of the summer but thankfully, this aged beautifully and was perfect to drink on this mild early autumn night. Thankfully, I don't have to drive anywhere for a while!
The pour to this was on par with what I've come to expect from District 96 as this was hazy, golden, and subtly radiant in hue. Plenty of head topped this off as it evenly settled and left behind wondrous sheets of lacing. Each ring easily bled down to the one below it as the suds easily covered a majority of my pint glass. Lots of sticky tropical fruit, tangerine, cool whip, and snake fruit in the nose in the nose as the taste was just as turbid, sweet, floral, and potent. Some candied and powdered sugar, dank hops, star fruit, and sticky passion fruit shone through in the taste as all of these were enough to take the potent edge off of this beer with it's self-described phyllo cake and sorbet making this feel like the strongest non-stout dessert beer that I've ever reviewed on here. Plenty of fruit, heft, and dankness from all three of the hops in this as District 96's trademark snake fruit finish tied everything together once I fully felt it in the aftertaste.
Yeah, this was strong but if you love good beer, that was the price to pay for enjoying one of the better "Quadruple IPA's" that I've ever had. A bit of white chocolate and bread stayed on my palate in the aftertaste as I had to swirl out a few bits of dark sediment that ended up at the bottom of my pint glass. Once again, all this needed was a date on the bottom of the can but besides that, this was a quality brew that had me singing their praises. Indeed, this was gigantic but they were more than up to the task as the end result was something I'd easily reach for again - as long as I didn't have to operate any heavy machinery afterwards!
