Pours a hazy, deep orange coloration with a large, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical, citrus hops, with notes of papaya, pineapple and orange. Taste is an excellent balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly dank and resinous hops, with tropical and citrus notes of papaya, pineapple, orange and lime peel, as well as just a hint of weed and pine. Finishes with a light bitterness and some papaya, lime peel and weed lingering in the aftertaste. Soft, fluffy mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.
Although I still think that QUIPAs are largely pointless, I do have to say that this really is an exceptionally well-made one that completely lacks the usual pitfalls of the style. Even though it's a bit sweet, there is no overdone sweetness, booziness, hop burn or overripe fruit to this at all, except for just a hint of booze in the finish that is pretty subtle for the monstrous 14% ABV though. I've had plenty of TIPAs that were boozier at 10% and if I didn't feel the alcohol go to my head after half the can already, I would have serious doubts that this really clocks in at 14%. The hops are bright, vibrant and well-defined here, with a good balance of sweetness and subtle dank and resinous accents, and the mouthfeel is very good as well.
