Really enjoy this brewery so it does me no joy to say that I did not enjoy this one. The look is pale with a quickly disappearing head and moderate carbonation. The smell is appropriate for the style, with notes of fruity esters and dough. The taste... the best I can describe it is it tastes like they added apple juice to it at the end of the brewing process. It's just unbalanced and unpleasant. Fruity estery notes are to be expected for this style but this honestly tastes like a mixed drink with apple juice as the base. There are some malty and spice elements there but mostly overpowered by that apple taste. The feel is on the thinner end of medium, not great for the style either - a Kolsch should be very easy going and thin.
Overall, maybe it's a harsh take, but I think the Amerikanisch was a much better approach to a kolsch and this recipe should be a one off and forgotten.
