Rough Hewn is a German-style Schwarzbier (black lager). It is delicious in its subtleties of mild coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Despite its dark color, it is crisp, light, and incredibly smooth around the edges. Imbibe to enjoy.

32 ounce crowler, filled yesterday at the brewery/taproom with a best by date of 12/29 written on the label. Served in a Combustion Mug Club glass, the beer pours a dark brown color with about an inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, coffee, bittersweet chocolate and a hint of caramel. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, with roasted malt, coffee, bittersweet chocolate, caramel and dark bready flavors. Sweet and bitter flavors are well balanced here. Mouthfeel/body is light, it's smooth and really easy to drink. A nice sessionable winter lager, it's been one of my recent favorites at Combustion. Certainly worth trying, I like it!
